Медали и дипломы являются единственными наградами в соревнованиях Олимпийских игр. Медали вручаются в знак признания выдающегося спортивного мастерства спортсменам, занявшим первое, второе и третье места в финальных соревнованиях Олимпийских игр. Together with diplomas, medals are the only prizes given for competition at the Olympic Games. Medals are given in recognition of sporting excellence to honor those athletes who place first, second and third in Olympic competition final. The gold medal is silver gilt, the second prize is a silver medal and the third a bronze medal. (See Olympic Charter Rule 57)
